The first BEAWARE Workshop & Factory Tour “Technology areas of potential development – Suitable research project East/West” was held on 23 April 2014 in Prague, Czech Republic. The event was organised by the Moravian Aerospace Cluster (MLK) in cooperation with the State Investment and Business Development Agency – CzechInvest. The workshop was supported by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, which hosted the participants in its highly convenient conference and meeting facilities.
The workshop started with the BEAWARE partners and other speakers from the EU new member states introducing their countries’ or regions’ potential in aerospace. Among the latter, the MLK`s companies presented their engineering tradition in aircraft design and development, and aircraft accessories and systems production. The representative from The Branch Contact Organisation for EU Projects for Aerospace, Karel Paiger, that the Czech participation in the Clean Sky (Calls for Proposal) was very small, while the Czech Aviation industry is the 9th-largest in Europe in terms of the number of employees.”

The second part of the workshop was dedicated to a company tour at the aerospace hub in Prague-Letnany. The first visit was arranged at the Aeronautical Research & Test Institute’s facilities (VZLU), which deals with structural testing of composites. Second, the participants got an overview of how GE Aviation`s Czech facility produces H80 turboprop aero engines for small transport and commuter aircraft. The last stop was at AVIA Propeller, a traditional Czech producer of aero engines’ propellers for small and medium sized civil aircraft.
Altogether, around 40 participants from 7 BEAWARE partner countries took park in the first 1-day workshop. The second BEAWARE Workshop & Factory tour will take place between 16-18 June 2014 at Marseille Euromediterranèe. Please see the agenda of Marseille event
