The University of Žilina has been operating in the network of Slovak universities for nearly 60 years. At its seven faculties it offers technically and technologically oriented study programmes as well as economic and humanities education. It has successfully spread the cooperation with partners in the world. The international dimension in our activities, the humanities and language branch of studies prepare students for work in the interdisciplinary and globalised environment.
The University of Žilina - Air Transport Department is an educational and research workplace of the University aimed at air transport.
Consultation and research activities of the Department are oriented to solving tasks related to air transport operation, a/c maintenance, economy, airport design and operations, air transport security and safety, management of air traffic services. The Department of Air Transport is ACI recognized educational institution a member of the EASN (European Aeronautical Science Network).
The Air Transport Department has an extensive knowledge of the following fields: airline and airport operation and processes from airport, airlines and other stakeholders’ points of view, operational inspection methods of fibre composite airframe structures used for maintenance, airline business and operations.
The Air Transport Department has teaching and research links with the Cranfield University Department of Transport; ENAC Toulouse; Department of Aerospace Engineering, University of Glasgow; Universita of Trieste; EUROCONTROL Experimental Centre, Bretigny sur Orge; CRDS Budapest; Helios, aviation consultancy based in Farnborough, UK (established through cooperation on various EU funded projects). The Air Transport Department also maintains close research and consultation contacts with the civil aviation industry in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
